About FindIt!

FindIt! is designed to make it easy to navigate large amounts of information to find what you’re looking for. Features include:

  • A comprehensive Calendar of town events that can be filtered to quickly find things of interest, and used to identify scheduling conflicts.
  • A list of Community Organizations, linked to their events
  • A list of Town Boards and Commissions that rely on citizen participation, linked to their events
  • A list of Venues around town, including meeting places, performance locations, athletic fields, town landmarks, party locations, and more
  • Volunteer opportunities and other ways to get involved in the community
  • Other community resources, tips, and links to useful information for residents (like the community information pages that used to be in phone books)

The website is

  • A work in progress. We’re actively revising and improving it
  • A collaborative effort. We need organizations to maintain their listings and submit their events.

The website is built and maintained by the Town Common, a Winchester nonprofit consisting entirely of volunteers!

1. The Calendar

The calendar is a listing of all town-wide events of broad interest. Events can be searched, and can be viewed according to Event type (categories such as Cultural, Community, Education, or Government); Date of event; Sponsoring organization; Location (or online); Age group; and Keywords, such as “book groups”, “story time”, “lecture”, or “student recital.”

The calendar has a Quick Check to see all events on a certain day, so you can check for scheduling conflicts.

Featured Events from the calendar are part of the online newspaper Winchester News.

Calendar events come from your submissions and from many organizational calendars, including the Town’s community and government calendars, the Winchester Public Library, Chamber of Commerce, Griffin Museum, and the Winchester Community Music School.

2. Organization Listing

The FindIt site aims to list all of the nonprofit organizations that serve the community. Currently, the listing includes about 126 organizations. The site also lists 55 town government boards and committees that include citizen participation.

Is your organization there?

Organization Information

Each organization listing includes a short description, mission statement, list of programs and services, and examples of volunteer opportunities, as well as contacts, website, social media, and calendar links, and more.

3. Venue List

FindIt has a list of about 74 locations where events might be held. Suggestions of others are welcome! Listings include cultural centers, schools, government facilities, houses of worship, parks, sports facilities and playgrounds, restaurants, party or banqueting facilities, and other business that host events for the public.

Identifying the venues simplifies calendar listings, and allows users to find events at certain places. Event organizers also benefit from having a list of possible event venues.
