Probate in a Nutshell, and Why You May (or May Not) Want to Avoid it!

Clients often come to a consultation at our law office with two goals in mind: first and foremost, they believe they need to sign a Will, and second, they want to avoid probate. With a little explanation they learn that these two goals directly conflict. This prestation will discuss the nuts and bolts of the probate process: timeframe for administration, options and steps in the process from opening to close, and hiccups that can occur throughout. We will also discuss scenarios in which probate is best to be avoided, and others in which it could be beneficial. You will leave this presentation with an understanding of which outcome – probate or avoiding it – is right for you!
